Mother convicted of felony for fibbing in order to put her kids in a better public school - Boing Boing

This really hit me close to home because my mom did the exact same thing to make sure I got into a school where I could experience something as small as going to a county fair or just studying around people and places I felt safe.
One day the school found out and kicked me out. My mom argued with the principal for an hour, but I ended up going to a very shitty school for a couple years.  It sucked.
This sucks FAR more.  It really makes no sense.

Even Donald Glover — the rightful heir to the Spiderman franchise — agrees that this is an awful situation and that she is being treated unfairly.
I am really glad a celebrity noticed this. I was worried it was going to get swept under the rug entirely.
THANK YOU DONALD GLOVER!!!

I have been trying to not say anything about this because this story hurts my soul.
So I am simply going to re-blog this post.

I am not one to cry easily at stories I read, but I have tears running down my face. This hits close to home because for a few years my parents did what they could to allow me to attend better schools which meant at some points lying about where we lived and at other times paying thousands of dollars just so I could attend a better public school. Not all schools, especially public ones, are equal in the education they can provide for children. Some parents/guardians don’t have the resources to afford living in wealthy neighborhoods which generally have better education systems nor do they have money to pay for their child(ren)’s education somewhere else if the public schooling in their area isn’t sufficient (I don’t know if that applies to this case specifically). Our American education system has large disparities. I recognize that she technically broke the law, but she was trying to provide her children with a better education, thus a better opportunity for a better life — isn’t that what all parents want for their children?
